You've heard it everywhere –
retinol is one of the most sought-after ingredients in skin care. Retinol is not only an anti-aging miracle weapon, but also offers numerous other benefits, from acne control to skin lightening.
What is it?
Retinol is a form of vitamin A, an ingredient known to promote skin renewal and increase collagen production.
What are the benefits?
When retinol is applied to the skin, it is absorbed and broken down into retinoic acid, which is a compound that can affect cell structure - especially collagen and can stimulate the cell renewal process. It reduces and prevents the formation of fine lines and wrinkles and reduces pigmentation problems caused by sun damage.
Who is retinol best for?
Retinol is best suited for people who are over 30 years old and looking for an anti-aging solution. However, you can start using retinol at a younger age as a preventive anti-aging measure, although the effect of retinol may not be as strong as on older skin.
However, if you have dry, sensitive or reddened skin, you should use retinol very carefully and ask your dermatologist for advice.
For all skin types, it is best to apply only once a week initially and then increase the applications from week to week. And don’t forget to wear sunscreen the day after.
What about my Vitamin C products?
Retinol has a higher pH value, while vitamin C has a lower pH value. For this reason, both ingredients should be used separately. Try to apply both at different times of the day: Vitamin C in the morning and retinol at night.
